First on First: Ballet

The beautiful dance known as ballet originated in Italy during the Renaissance around the year 1500. The term came from the Italian word ballare, or “to dance.” During special events, people would gather and do intricate and fluid dance moves. Often, nobility would join in and learn some of the moves. When Catherine de Medici married King Henry II of France, she brought the style of ballet to the French courts, who popularized the dance as we know it today.
