When people hear the name Benedetto, beautiful and priceless guitars come to mind. The man behind the brand is Robert “Bob” Benedetto, born on October 22, 1946, in the Bronx, New York. He was born into a family of musicians and builders. When he was 22 years old, Bob decided to try his hand at building an archtop jazz guitar. Archtops are either acoustic or semi-acoustic, steel-stringed and have a distinctive arched top (hence their name). While looking for building materials, Bob fell in love with his parents’ dining room table. With his father’s blessing (and table), he built his first guitar.
Soon, Bob became known for his excellent craftsmanship. His guitars were in-demand and were played by Johnny Smith, Martin Taylor, Bucky Pizzarelli, Cal Collins, Howard Alden, Frank Vignola and many more. His guitars are also used in studios all over the world and have been featured in film, television and print media. Bob continues to make guitars today and is known around the world for being a luthier. So far, he has produced nearly 850 instruments. His current project is Benedetto Amps – a company that creates amplifiers that match the quality and sound of his guitars.
