Ryan Arcidiacono: Italian of the Week

villanova-ryan-arcidiaconoIf you’ve been paying attention to this year’s NCAA Men’s Division Tournament – also known as March Madness – you’ve probably heard of this week’s Italian of the Week. Ryan Arcidiacono was born on March 26, 1994, to Joe and Patti. Both of his parents attended and met at Villanova University. Ryan grew up in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, where he practiced basketball from the time he was a small child. He continued to play the sport in high school, where he finished as Neshaminy High School’s all-time leading scorer and was named as the 46th player in the country by ESPN.

img24839067Ryan began his college basketball career at his parent’s alma mater: Villanova University. During his freshman year, he helped his team make it to the NCAA Tournament, and was named Rookie of the Week four times during the season. The next year, he was named Honorable Mention All-Big East and second team All-Philadelphia Big Five. Ryan began his junior year as ESPN’s #84 College Basketball Player. After completing the season, he was named to the All-Big 5 First Team and was honored as the Big East Player of the Year. As a senior this year, Ryan is in his final year playing for Villanova. Before the season started, he was named to several watch lists. He has led his team to March Madness and the Final Four. Ryan and his team will play against Oklahoma tonight. In bocca al lupo!

  1. How do you know this kid is Italian? No mention of heritage in this article. Doe she speak Italian? Is he aware of Italian culture? or Does he solely have a name? Names can be deceiving.
