First on First: The Grammy Awards

The first Grammy Awards were held on May 4, 1959, in Beverly Hills, with a guest list that included music royalty. Italian and Italian Americans took home many awards, including the top prizes. The winners included:

Best Album Cover – Only the Lonely by Frank Sinatra
Best Classical Performance by a Vocal Soloist – Renata Tebaldi

This year marks the 58th Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 15th. Among the nominees are Tony Bennett who was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, Denise Donatelli for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and Lady Gaga for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
