Did you know an Italian American was the first to have written a certified gold record?
In 1941 Harry Warren (born Salvatore Antonio Guaragna, pictured left) and Mack Gordon wrote the song “Chattanooga Choo Choo.” It was performed by Glenn Miller and his band and was featured in the film Sun Valley Serenade. The song topped the charts in December and stayed at #1 for 8 more weeks. The album was the first to be certified Gold by RCA Victor after selling over 1,200,000 discs by the end of February 1942. “Chattanooga Choo Choo” was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music (Song) from a Motion Picture.
