Welcome to the second annual #GivingTuesday!

You may have heard about #GivingTuesday last year. Thousands of non-profits, businesses large and small, social media platforms, celebrities, government officials and, of course, the Sons of Italy joined forces to promote the first national day of giving in the United States.

Sure, every day is a good day to give to those who benefit from charitable contributions and deeds. The #GivingTuesday movement is a reminder that the hectic time between Thanksgiving and the new year, when Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals and the holidays are on the brain, is a perfect time to give a little more.

Whether you make a charitable donation, volunteer or help a stranger, please take time this #GivingTuesday to be part of this national celebration honoring our great tradition of generosity. Then spread the word about how you are giving – and inspire others. (Remember to tag @Sons_of_Italy (Twitter), and #GivingTuesday if you tweet or post on Facebook.)

If volunteering is your cup of tea: There are numerous worthwhile organizations and causes out there – likely many in your own community – that could use some help. Why not combine the pride in your heritage with your passion to volunteer? Consider focusing your volunteer efforts with Italian-American organizations or groups that support and promote Italian-American heritage.

Or, to broaden your impact, consider helping a Sons of Italy national charity. Specially designated by Sons of Italy leadership, the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and the Alzheimer’s Association all receive financial contributions from the Sons of Italy and all work hard to fight diseases and disorders that can affect us all. Each also relies on volunteer efforts.

A variety of opportunities exists to fit every type of volunteering objective. Some may not even require you to volunteer in person! View the list below for an opportunity that is right for you, and enjoy helping make the world a better place!
